Slated to open in April of 2014 the South Plaza at the Beaverton Round signals the completion of a new phase of rejuvenation for this important urban Redevelopment Area. The South Plaza will be the new foyer to the City of Beaverton’s  relocated City Hall. KLA worked closely with the City to design the space for a diversity of uses. The concept revolves around the nexus of three historic creeks referenced in the design with curvilinear geometry on the northern half of the plaza also used to define three major spaces on the south side. Each of these spaces serves a different purpose but fits into a cohesive vision for the plaza.  Inscribed granite bands carry the names of Beaverton’s Sister Cities in the paving.  This space is open and flexible and can accommodate a range of activities from small concerts to a farmers market. An arc of seat steps wraps the plaza the central sculpture by noted artist Devin Fields. A grove of trees provide a resting and relaxing environment complete with movable tables and chairs creating a urban park atmosphere. All of these amenities are within the reach of existing City Hall and Trimet creating a regional destination for years to come.
