In the wake of Vancouver, Washington’s downtown renaissance comes the Grand Central Retail Development aimed at the “close in” urban audience. KLA’s landscape  design developed a sophisticated and user friendly environment.

Located near the windy shores of the Columbia River the shopping center’s outdoor plaza, walks and parking lot utilize drought and wind tolerant plantings. KLA addressed the client’s environmental concerns for water conservation and management.

An abundance of flowering trees, sweeping bands of ornamental grasses and native plants create textural play and a celebration of the outdoors. The use of pervious paving adds design interest, and a higher degree of sustainability.

The central plaza features kinetic wind sculptures by Lyman Whitaker which provides a central attraction throughout all seasons. As a community gathering space, people at Grand Central dine alfresco and shop in leisure in a pedestrian friendly environment .
