The Shin Residence is a tour de force

of design detail and elegance. Koch

Landscape Architecture and the owner

worked together over the course of

four years defining an approach and

choreographing the final execution of the landscape plantings and stone details. Every material was thoroughly considered and evaluated for its synergy with the architecture crafted by Liz Dexter AIA of Reveal Architecture and Interiors.

With hints of Asian asceticism, modern flare and restraint both the house and garden engage the context and views from its bluff overlooking Lake Oswego.

A ceremonious progression of landscape spaces unfold around the house. Incorporated into the design are mature Black Pines, natural stone, a simple palette of ground covers and native shrubs. The entrance to the house bridges a reflective pool which will provide the opportunity for water lilies.

Austere yet lush the landscape balances the aesthetic sensibilities of the owner with that of the surrounding natural landscape. The garden is expressive of modern elegance and traditional candor.
