The Victorian Cottage Garden is an English Cottage Garden constructed around an 1896 Victorian farmhouse lovingly restored by the owners in 2011. Extensive grading, stone wall construction and teeth grinding were combined to relieve the sense that the landscape was overwhelming the house.  The steeply sloped site was terraced back away from the house to gain more usable areas for entertainment and daily use. The vegetable garden was moved from a distant corner of the property to a more proper location outside the kitchen.  A field native wildflower meadow was introduced on the steepest portion to relieve the need for extensive difficult mowing and allowing for wildlife habitat and a sanctuary for birds. Paths were constructed using tumble bluestone flagstone, salvaged lavender bluestone and wood chips. Each path material corresponds and reinforces the distinct feel of each garden room.  This garden spans the breadth of garden design; from very formal area to very informal for relaxed enjoyment of the scenes.
